What do you do with leftover fabrics that are accumulating ?
For me, I can’t bear to toss them away. Those bits and pieces from fat quarters or ½ yards cuts can be turn into a useful project. I just needed some extra time to organize and sort out the lovely scraps, odd sizes, shapes and strips.
A basketful saved ‘bits of happiness’ made me realized that they may cost as much as the original fabric purchased. It’s quite fun working with these scraps and there are many quilters who can testify that having a stack of scraps means the possibilities are endless! If you are creative enough, who knows – you can turn them into another ‘bonus’ quilt !
My quilty scraps came in handy for the idea of a ‘table top quilt’ for an old sewing machine (which belonged to my late Mom) and on which I use it as a table top for my electric ‘Brother’ sewing machine.
Here’s a happy scrappy quilt (my 6th quilty piece) !
I sandwiched the quilt with a thinner batting and did free-motion quilt with my home machine with a free-motion darning foot (this can be quite challenging if you do not get the stitches or tension right !) and finally finished off by adding a pink binding to match with my favorite working chair. I am happy with the colors-match. You can see it helps brighten up my working corner. 🙂
I’m glad to have made 6 quilts so far and feel ‘super accomplished’ at the end of each project. Allow me to showcase the previous quilts that I have made :
This was the first one made using jelly roll strips cut from batik fabrics.
a baby quilt
I am now thinking and searching what’s next in the pattern for another quilt….as there’s a special request for another one for baby Raphael. 🙂
